Wood Grain
It is important to note that all the 3D wood materials in Wood Works have parameter for the direction of the wood grain. These materials are ment to be used on objects that are made from a single piece of wood.
The axis of the wood grain will affect in a significant way how the object looks.
Here there is an example with a simple shape to understand it. My object dimensions are 0.5 by 0.13 by 2. In this case I select the Z agist to be the direction of my wood grain.
It is like if it was carved/cut from a tree aligned to the Z axis.
If I have the Y axis selected, this is how it would look like. Because now it is like if it was carved or cut from a tree aligned to the Y axis:
Dimensions
The materials are designed to work as good as possible with real world scaled objects. But It’s important to have in mind that some parameters have to be adjusted depending on your object dimensions.
The distance for dust, edge wear, and the scale of the noise used in the paint peeling are quite important.
Carefully Crafted
3D SMART Wood Materials are designed not to stretch when the object changes dimensions, as it would be in the real word, since the source material (the tree) will always keep the same proportions.
This ratio can be changed from the material parameters, but once set, the changes won’t stretch your material.
The parameters will also allow you to “move” and “rotate” the log from where the object was carved
